Rules of 5
This is a great tool to help slow down our reactions, responses, impulsivity, and control our emotions which can sometimes be really big, and really heavy.
It's practicing MINDFULNESS
In the moment you are aware of what's going on, and you can choose to freak out, yell, scream, overreact, or you can ask yourself:
Is this going to matter in 5 MINUTES
Is this going to matter in 5 HOURS
Is this going to matter in 5 DAYS
Is this going to matter in 5 WEEKS
Is this going to matter in 5 MONTHS
And is this going to matter in 5 YEARS
Bring yourself back to the moment, help yourself think clearly and rationally, decrease conflict, decrease arguments, decrease stressors.
Learn to be less impulsive, less reactive (or over reactive), less responsive (or over responsive), and less irrational when your emotions may be running the show.
Remember, you are in control.
